Research at St Vincent's Clinical School

The St Vincent's Hospital campus at Darlinghurst consists of several research institutes such as the Garvan Research Institute, the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (VCCRI), St Vincent's Centre for Applied Medical Research (AMR) and The Kinghorn Cancer Center (TKCC).  These Institutes are all affiliated with the University of New South Wales (UNSW), St Vincent's Clinical School and house many UNSW undergraduate and postgraduate students for their research projects and studies.

The School has a vibrant and active research culture, evidenced in the work of our many postgraduate research students (currently over 200 enrolled) and academic staff, our significant track record of publications, our successful history of research grants, and the trans-disciplinary backgrounds and experience of our academic and research staff. In addition to academic staff based in the School, our many conjoint staff and those within our affiliated Research Institutes contribute significantly to our research profile.

Tips for improving your citation impact:
a.    Ensure you have an ORCID number, and especially if you have a common name, so that all your citations are correctly attributed.
b.    Create a Google Scholar page- this increases public access to your outputs, boosting your profile across the board.
c.    Increase your Altmetrics score- tweeting and other social media significantly increase attention and engagement around your research.
d.    Engage with Open Access- evidence suggests that if a paper is more widely available, it has more chance of being cited. Just beware of low impact or predatory open access journals.
e.    Attend the UNSW Nature Masterclass or Publishing for Impact workshops, hosted by the Researcher Development Unit free for UNSW staff.
f.    Contact your Outreach Librarian for tailored, discipline-specific workshops on maximising scholarly reach for citation impact, including metrics, curating your digital presence and negotiating publishing contracts.
